Showdown: Dodge Ram 1500 vs. Chevy Silverado

Dodge Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado have long been adversaries. Both compete for the hearts of consumers in the full-size pickup category, and these two rivals are joined by a cadre of other trucks that also have aspirations of reaching the top - a place long-held by the Ford F-150. With the redesign of these two pickups in 2019, however, the gap closes. Both the Ram 1500 and the Chevy Silverado have pulled ahead of their peers, running neck and neck for the top tier.

Both pickups offer enough options to make any driver's head spin, and both offer multiple choices when it comes to bed length and cabin size, as well as gear boxes and other equipment designed to increase payload or towing ability. But there are a few differences between these two, as well. Read on to learn more.

Engine Choices

When it comes to power, these trucks are both loaded. The Ram 1500 features a standard 3.6-liter, V-6 engine with 306 hp. That's hefty on its own, but the Ram also offers two V-8 engines that deliver even more, as well as a turbo diesel V-6. The Silverado, however, takes power one step further. While the Silverado's base engine is slightly less robust than the Ram's, its two V-8 options both offer up more ponies than the Ram. Chevy also offers a Performance package that boosts the top-line V-8 engine to 435 horses. For more energy-conscious drivers, the Silverado has 4-cylinder turbocharged and 6-cylinder turbo diesel engines. For the array of engine choices, Silverado wins.

Interior Design and Comfort

Interior design and comfort have typically been on the back burner in this vehicle category, but consumers have decided that these elements are often as important as the towing capacity of their pickup. The Silverado does well when it comes to seat comfort and interior design, and if it were being evaluated against others in its class, it would come out ahead. However, the Ram 1500 takes interior appointments to a whole new level. The use of high-quality materials in the cabin - materials like matte wood trim, premium leather, and metallic highlights - provide a sense of luxury that's just not found in the Silverado. When it comes to seat comfort, the Ram offers heated and ventilated seats with reclining capability not only for the driver and front passenger but for backseat riders, as well, which means the Ram outclasses others in its class when it comes to interior design and comfort.

Cabin Technology

The Ram 1500 gets points in this category, too. An available 12-inch UConnect infotainment screen is beautiful, quick to figure out, and easy to use. It features a split screen that allows viewing of Apple CarPlay while using other features of the system. The Silverado has a quite useful eight-inch infotainment screen that's easy to operate, but again, it's outclassed by the Ram.

Dodge Ram 1500 Wins with Power, Comfort & Convenience

When it comes to pickups that deliver on power, comfort, and convenience, the win goes to Ram 1500. According to industry experts, this truck also wins in the handling and safety categories. For all-around use, Ram 1500 is a solid choice. Come drive one today and experience the Ram difference!
